Believing in the Unseen...

Believing in the Unseen...

"We live by faith, not by sight.". 2 Corinthians 5:7

As humans we are trained that what we can see is what we can trust. It is easier to rely on something if we can see it. Who wants to drive a car with their eyes closed?

We tend to want to control everything because that way we have a say so in how it is done. But the honest truth is you have no say so over the most important battles in your life. Those life changing events that happen - can you stop them? Can you follow your spouse around 24 hours a day to make sure they are good? Do you lock your children in the house and never let them leave? Can you stop cancer from developing?

The big battles you don't have control over. That makes us uneasy. But there is a source of comfort available to you at all times - your faith.

So many people want proof to believe in God. Many say that it is too hard to believe in something you can't see. For those of us who do faith is not a goal, it is a life necessity.

This scripture tells us we live by faith and not by what we see. Yet people who argue they need proof to believe do not realize they live by faith every day.

When you are driving and press down on the brakes how do you know the car will slow down? Faith. When you are on an operating table how do you know you will wake up from surgery? Faith. When you sit in a chair how do you know it will hold you up and you won't come crashing to the ground? Faith.

You can't control everything. Every struggle you go through in life is a test of your faith. Yet when it comes to struggles we tend to want to give up because we have lost control. That is exactly where God teaches us we have nothing left to believe in but the "unseen". He is prepping you for great things but knows that without faith it just won't work because HE KNOWS we can't control everything. There is only one HIM. The Bible tells us that faith develops perseverance which develops character in turn. This is a test but one designed to make you better.

We will put faith in brake lines, doctors to save us, chairs to hold us in place, but all too often we forget to have faith in the One who created us, who knows the number of hairs on your head, your every thought, the day you will leave the earth and meet Him.

When you believe in the "unseen" and trust in it you develop faith. When times get tough you are so free. Free not to worry knowing you will be okay, be able to use your experience to help others, and finally be able to let go of the control you crave.

Believing in the "unseen" in the end is what liberates us from what we can see. The seen can be much more troubling here on earth. The "unseen" is what is protecting you - not a brake line or a chair - it is the hand of God reaching down to you waiting for you to reach up.
